This family was so fun to work with! The 3 year old was such a character! I was literally laughing out loud when I paged through all the photos from the session. I could have a whole post of her hilariously cute outtakes!

The location where we are shooting happens to have a great fountain that is a popular spot during the warm summer days. It was unfortunately way too crowded to get any formal portraits but the kids had fun getting wet in their nice clothes…that is until it was time to go home in wet clothes!

I love the eyes on this little girl! They just sparkle and shine! There are no photoshop enhancements going on here. Those are all natural. She was just a joy to photograph!

Brothers | Portland Child Photographer

I know that I told mom that I wouldn’t have this sneak peek ready until Monday, but when I got home from this session and looked at the photos, I couldn’t help but edit a couple! These boys are adorable!

For some reason, photographing your own family is the hardest! I had such high hopes for getting a photo of my husband and the kids on the Oregon Coast. It took about 2 minutes for the whining and complaining to begin and we hadn’t even made it to the sand yet! So we snapped this one right where we were. I am hoping that in 20 years when I look back on this picture, all I will remember is the lovely beach vacation we had and the screaming and whining will be long since forgotten!

And one more…They are cute, aren’t they?

We are back in Indiana visiting family and I wanted to get a good shot of the kids with their cousin. Not always such an easy task with a 4 year old and 2 two year olds! But I think Grandma will be happy with any one of these!

I had the pleasure of taking some candids for the Chamber Music Camp of Portland today. I have never seen so many talented young musicians! It was such a treat to see and hear them play!

Apparently this should be my tagline for evening sessions this July! Portland is having an unusual mosquito-y summer thanks to our very wet Spring! But this family braved the little bloodsuckers yesterday evening and got some great shots! They are very good sports. I happen to love this family! They are always easy going and fun, and the kids are just adorable! I photographed them last September and was just amazed to see how much they have grown and changed! I think that is one of my favorite things about this job.

The whole reason that I got into photography was to document my children’s lives. And let me tell you, now I have documentation of almost every moment of their lives. Probably more pictures of than any one family should have, but they are my kids, and I just love every single image. Each one tells a different story and is a different piece of their lives. I also really think that prints are the most timeless way to keep images. Who knows if that CD will be able to be read in 30 years, or if that USB cord will plug into a computer, or if blogger will still exist. But prints will always be able to be looked at. No fancy interface needed!

The problem is, we live in a really small house. I like bigger prints and do print up all the really good ones and the formal portraits, but we just don’t have the wall space for all the everyday stuff. I don’t think anyone does. And I don’t really like the idea of having separate albums for every event. Though I know plenty of people who love collecting photos this way! So I thought that I would share my solution with all of you because I am so in love with this one. And it is so easy!

I keep a private blog of all things related to my two kids. It chronicles both their daily lives and major milestones. Of course, it contain lots and lots of images. Throughout the year I add images and entries so that our family and friends, especially those that live far away, can keep up with our kids’ lives as they grow. Then once a year I collect it all and print it to a hardcopy book, thanks to www.blurb.com.

The task of making a 200+ page book, even once a year, would be quite an undertaking without Blurb. But with Blurb you can have their software, Booksmart, “slurp” up your blog into book format. That just leaves a bit of formatting to be done and the book can be uploaded to their site where you can order as many copies as you need. I always purchase two copies, one for each child. I hope that these books will be something that they keep all their lives and some day show their kids all the great things they did as children.

Here is a look at the book that just showed up on our doorstep!

Summer finally arrived in Portland on June 22nd. After the extremely cold and wet Spring that we had, it was a welcome change! The kids and I have been soaking up every minute of it – playing outside, in the sprinkler, meeting good friends for afternoon ice cream! I think it is so much more precious since it took so long to get here!
